A terrible tragedy befell Bali at 11:30PM, Saturday, October 12th, 2002.  A two large bombs were detonated in Kuta near a crowded night club.  300 people, including Australians, Europeans, Americans, Indonesians, and Balinese were murdered by this heinous event, and even more were seriously injured.  The Balinese are offering prayers and offerings to their Hindu deities.  Here are just a few of the sad images from that event.  (Don't overlook reading the speech given by a Balinese concerning the healing we all need to do.)

The following are photos taken during the two day 'Tribute to Peace & Unity' gathering in Ubud on November 9th and 10th, 2002.  The slogan was 'Bali Now...More Than Ever'.  Both days were filled with processions, prayers, music, poetry, short speeches, music, dances, and a huge gathering of a cross section of the people of Bali.

Please click HERE to read a very moving speech given by the leader of Kuta - it speaks eloquently of how we as a people and the Balinese in particular can handle this tragedy.
