2005 in Summary:
In Jan. 2005, Yanti & I were still in
Shanghai, China.
I was teaching English, full time, at the prestigious, Wall Street English. We
lived only a 20 minute walk from where I worked! Yanti had already learned
Mandarin and was working on her first novel (in Indonesian); she was a wonderful
wife to me in China
– cooking; shopping; interpreting!
April to June – after almost a year, Yanti finally
had her appointment for her US Immigrant Visa! We traveled (24 hour trip) from
Shanghai
to Guangzhou by train and then went over to
beautiful and modern Hong Kong for a few days
(Yanti rode her first roller-coaster). In June we went to
Beijing and saw the incredible sites there (Forbidden City, Great
Wall; and Summer
Palace).
July – we returned to Bali!
After my 1 year contract was up with Wall Street English and after one and a
half YEARS in China, we left
and flew back to Bali! We found a huge house
(4 BR/4 Bath).
We turned one of the bedrooms into a guest room (Mimpi Gula) and even have had a
few guests there! (Paying, even). Yanti’s 2 cousins (Fifin and Fany) joined us
along with her grandmother and brother. So, we are now a 3 generation family of
6!
September – We celebrated our 2nd
anniversary; my birthday (a HUGE one!); and Yanti flew (by herself) to the
US. She had to go because the law required her
to complete her Visa within 6 months! She stayed with my family and had a great
time being shown around the LA area and eating the US Food! (I think she even
got a little fat!) I started working for EnglishTown.com. It’s part of English
First and I teach English over the internet. I go to an internet café in Ubud
and sit there with a headset on and teach students from all over the world
(literally). Starting in Jan, 2006, I’ll be able to do this from home! (We’re
finally getting broadband at our new house).
The new year - 2006:
On Jan. 1st we’ll move to another house.
This one is smaller but better for us. It’s in a house we had lived in right
before we left for China.
It belongs to a great Balinese painter, known as Pak Soki. He’s been so
wonderful to us and says we are part of his family! I’m setting up a web site
for him (http://www.ketutsoki.com) The house is better for Yanti – we’re back in the village of
Penestanan; better shopping; more friends; etc!
Mid Jan – Yanti & I’ll travel to
California! We’ll be there for 3 weeks. See family in
So. Cal (my
wonderful brother is lending us his car); then to Las Vegas to get (re) married
– this time by Elvis!; then up to the Bay Area to see friends up there. Should
be fun. I hope to really show Yanti
California! Maybe a
Disney
Land trip.
So, it’s been a very busy year for the Bali
Briscoe’s! Yet a wonderful one of Family!
We all wish you the very best.
May you have all the love and success you
can handle
May you and your family stay in excellent
health in 2006!
